The Low-down on How to Get Found in Google Searches

SEO means Search Engine Optimization
When someone Google searches for something like, ‘life coach’ or ‘local community events’, ideally, you would like your business to appear close to the first or at least the first 10 items on the results page (SERP) or Search Engine Results Page. Why? So people will become aware of you, that you exist, and ultimately, click on your URL.

How do you achieve this?
First and foremost be sure you are providing what your target audience is looking for (solving a problem or delivering on something they want) and that it is presented in a way that draws them in and encourages them to take a journey on your website.

The key is to keep them on your website.
You want them to spend time on it and click on different things, read your blog, book a call, buy your offers, etc., because the Google crawlers are looking out for how interested people are in you. Is your business worthy to be ranked in searches?

How will you get them there in the first place?

  • Keyword search – There are tools you can use to find the most searched for keywords or keyword phrases relevant to your business. Ideally, you want to find words or phrases with high search volume and low competition i.e. ‘life coaches specializing in attachment styles’.

Other factors to consider:

  • Links – internal links, external links, and backlinks – you want to link within your site, away from your site, and link back to your site. This tells the crawlers that something is interesting on your site or that you direct people to interesting things off your site.
  • Speed and performance – your website should be easy to navigate and logical in terms of guiding a visitor through the site and it should have a fast loading speed to compete in the Google rankings. Keeping things neat and organized and getting rid of unnecessary pages and plugins can help optimize your website’s performance.
  • Citations – As a business, you can register on public directories. like Google My Business, professional associations, or networking groups where you have a profile that links back to your website.
  • Content – Create fresh valuable content on your website regularly like a monthly blog or newsletter. This tells the algorithm that your website is relevant and current and not abandoned and forgotten.

This is a general overview to get you thinking and deciding if this is something you might want to look further into or maybe you already have it covered. Either way, it’s a win.
